Battle of the Bands Finalists Chosen Battle of the Bands finalists chosen
The votes are in and the people have spoken.
More than 8,000 votes were cast in a very close competition to choose the five bands that will go on to the final round of the Haverhill Rocks Battle of the Bands on Saturday, Aug. 22, starting at 1 p.m. at GAR Park in Haverhill.
The band Something Green topped the voting at 1,522.
Returning bands Have at It and Hysteria came in second and third, respectively.
Newcomer bands Through Fear and One Step Away will also perform.
The five bands will compete for a $1,000 prize, donated by Trinity EMS, and the production of a music video, donated by ABE Multimedia of Haverhill. Audience enthusiasm will be a major component when voting, so supporters of each of the bands are encouraged to attend and cheer for their favorites.
Band performances, recorded at Haverhill Community Television, are available for viewing at www.HaverhillRocks.com, where VIP Meet-the Band tickets — $25 each — are available. Admission to the event is free but a $5 donation is gratefully accepted.

Two bands from the rock school program at the DeAngelis Studio of Music and Art located in Lafayette Square in Haverhill will perform: the Black Diamonds, composed of local student musicians ages 7 through 11, and Kelly and the Cosmic Noise, composed of local student musicians ages 16 to 18.
Both bands performed at Haverhill's KidsFest in May. Proceeds will go to support Winnkenni Castle's building and maintenance fund and to present next year's Battle of the Bands.
The band Something Green, from the Atkinson/Sandown, N.H. area, blends smooth blues and classic rock guitar solos with melodic rhythm sections and unique riffs. Have At It, from Haverhill, plays post-indie punk alternative-core.
Hysteria, also from Haverhill, plays alternative, pop, punk and rock. Through Fear, from the Exeter/Seabrook, N.H. area, plays industrial, death metal and soul. One Step Away, from Andover, plays mid-'90s hard pop rock in the vein of Breaking Benjamin and Three Doors Down with a touch of metal.
